The WiFi type used by our cameras is 2.4 GHz

This is available by default on most routers, many modern routers are dual band.

2.4GHz

The 2.4 GHz frequency of the wifi router offers the wifi user a wide coverage area and is better at penetrating solid objects with a maximum speed of 150 Mbps.

5 GHz

The 5 GHz frequency facilitates the customer with a higher data range with negligible interference and offers a great deal when it comes to the internet speeds for wifi for home. Contrary to this benefit, it has a narrow coverage area and is not a successful band when it comes to penetrating solid objects and is not compatible with our cameras.

If your router is broadcasting on dual band and will not connect to your camera you may have to split the 2.4 and 5GHz signals, in the vast majority of cases this is not necessary.

How do I split my 5GHz and 2.4GHz router?

To access your router, you need to type in the IP address of your router into a browser on a PC or Mac that is connected to the same network, this will allow you to login to the router. The IP address and the router password are normally on the back of your router. If this is not shown on your router search for the IP address and default password online using the model number of your router, then follow the instructions to login.

Once logged into your router look for the setting to change the ‘wireless band’ or ‘enable split banding’ on your router. This is often in the advanced settings tab. Now change the wireless band to 2.4GHz or disable 5GHz and click save.

If you are not happy to carry this out contact your ISP and ask them to help you set up your router to work on 2.4GHz.

Encryption Type WPA

This is set as standard on most domestic routers on the market and is used by our wifi cameras.
